And so it begins...

I've been intending to start blogging for some time now; mainly for my own benefit as I'm sure most people are not remotely interested in what I think about stuff.

Back in the old days people used to keep diaries - I kept one briefly when I was about 14 but it didn't make it as far as June, let alone a whole year.

Nowadays most people's lives are out there on Facebook or Twitter - too much so, one could say. I do also wonder about the longevity of electronic information compared to books, printed photos or carvings into stone tablets but that's perhaps the subject of another blog.

So this hopefully won't be just a series of "I've just done this" or "I'm so pissed off at that" that are so easy to do on social media but a chance to write a bit more in depth and improve my writing, which after 30 years of creating software has gone a bit rusty.

When I was wondering about what to write about, I thought I would struggle to come up with stuff but the more I've thought about it there's actually loads of things I'm interested in. The initial list is:

  • Running
  • Rugby League
  • Sport in general
  • Music
  • Genealogy
  • Technology and Software
  • Travel
  • TV and Film
  • Politics
Actually, I may end up writing reviews of stuff too - I'm not sure anybody will care but I'll have fun doing it.

One thing I won't be writing about is anything to do with work - at least until I've retired. Work is a major part of anyone's life if you're fortunate enough to have a job but it's the one thing to completely steer clear of on the internet. That, libel and anything to do with Islam. That's three things isn't it; I'd better start keeping a list.

So, while I think about the subject of my first proper blog please add any comments you think are helpful. For example, "Don't waste your time, we aren't interested" is fine.
